Niobium carbide ceramics refer to ceramics with niobium carbide as the main crystal phase. The chemical formula is NbC, a face-centered cubic lattice. The powder is bluish purple. Melting point 3180°C, theoretical density 7.85g/cm3, microhardness above 2100kg/mm2, elastic modulus 345GPa, thermal conductivity 0.11J/cm·s·C

NbC powder is usually synthesized with Nb2O5 and carbon black in an inert or reducing atmosphere. Hot pressing sintering method can be used to obtain high density. It can be used as an additive in cemented carbide due to the high melting point and high hardness of niobium carbide.

Multi-component carbides, based on it, such as NbC-WC-C ternary system, can be used as aerospace materials as nozzle throat lining materials.
